hi!

Since hurricane Sandy has taken over what I can do for the next few days, I just wanted to share this picture of Snuggles taking a cat nap! I ♥ her and the cuteness she brings. And for those of you on the East Coast stay safe.

Robots.

Robots have taken over my brain. All right, I wish I could say I was joking but I’m not. They’re all I’m thinking about right now. I’m pretty sure you’re asking yourself why on Earth are robots on your brain and I’m happy to tell you why.
In ninth grade I took a class called DDP (Design, Drawing and Production); it’s a gateway class of engineering. The next one in the “flow” of the engineering path is CIM (Computer Integrated Machines) AKA robots.  I take CIM and I am one of a handful of girls in any engineering class. This class is a very hands on class, we build (simple) robots, program them and run them.  Usually we work in pairs or groups of three so that the work and materials are distributed evenly. My partner Val and I had to completely re-start our robot about a week from the due date. So we have been staying after every day and skipping lunch to have our very smart friend Nick help us with all of this. (This is also the reason I’ve been slightly absent this past week.)
This outfit is relaxed and is very simple.  This outfit was actually worn the day Nick told me that it would be best to just scratch our original design and have him guide us toward what we should be building. I didn’t anticipate being told that we were going to be told to start over otherwise I’m sure I would have worn heels so I could have had a hissy fit. (I’m kidding. I nearly cried when Nick told me we should start over.)  I like my heels but moccasins are great for fall!  They keep my toes warm and are (usually) fashionable.
[I'm Wearing: Lace top: Aerie, Gingham top: Aeropostale, Jeans: Garage and Moccasins: Target.]

We run our robot on Wednesday wish us luck. xoxo Jess

Happy (Almost) Halloween!

My mom is a rather big cutesy holiday decorator. We don't do gory things because my mom likes to keep it rated G but we still enjoy putting up cute little things like ghosts, handmade tomb stones, pumpkins my grandfather made and once in a while you may catch a mum. Well you see though, my mother is a killer of all things green and leafy so it's very rare you'll see any type of plant around our house, unless my aunts who both have green thumbs come by and garden. Pictured are some our decorations (and one of my neighbors).  What's your favorite type of Halloween decoration, gory or cutesy? (I love cutesy up close and gory from a far!)
[I'm Wearing: Cardigan, Top and Skirt: Forever 21, Tights: Target and Shoes: Payless]
This outfit has a double dose of mustard in it. Mustard tights and a mustard cardigan. Mustard has quickly become my favorite color for fall outfits. I feel sorta bad because the last two outfits and now this one have all featured these tights. But I’d like to think that it can show you that you can mix up ways to wear something with the things you already have! What do you guys think about doing that? Do you think it’s fun? Easy? Hard? Rewarding? (I vote for easy [most of the time] and rewarding!)
The weather in Buffalo has been dreary. Today it rained all day (it’s still raining as I write this). Yesterday was one of the only days in the past week where it did rain! I like to take advantage of those days by walking around and seeing all the cute decorations people on my block have put up. It’s so cute to see what they’ve got up.

A bit like...

I’m not going to say I told you so. Well maybe. No, I can't. Oh who am I kidding, of course I can. I told you, you would be seeing these tights again! I have worn them twice this week, this outfit is my favorite so far. I planned it ahead of time just because I was bored one night (that I didn’t have dance, go figure).  I actually was worried about this outfit because the top I’m wearing is a dress and it peaks through a bit at the bottom. But I think it looks fine, it’s not like the dress is sitting on my knees while this skirt is obviously very short.
[I'm Wearing: Dress(worn as top): Charlotte Russe,Cardigan: Aeropostale Skirt: Hollister, Tights: Target and Shoes: Famous Footwear]
I own about 5 pieces of clothing that are from Hollister still. Hollister was where everyone and their dogs were shopping at while I was in middle school, myself included. We middle schoolers really enjoyed being walking billboards for Abercrombie, Hollister and Aeropostale. It was certainly an awkward time in my fashion history.  This skirt is a more recent purchase form Hollister, it was in fact purchased last year but it’s been the only thing I’ve bought from there since middle school. It’s what I like to call my flowy, flouncy, bouncy skirt. It’s such a fun skirt to wear I always feel like I could go flying in this skirt!
While I was wearing this outfit at school people kept telling me I look like an elementary school teacher. I’m not sure why but I totally felt that way too when I was planning this. Maybe it’s the collar or maybe it’s the tights. I’m not sure but whatever it is makes this outfit cute and I’m OK with that. Tonight I’ve got practices for our Christmas performance at dance! Tomorrow I’m doing a favor for my friend by playing a make shift 3rd wheel. Wish me luck! (I kid…sorta)

Something Pretty

Two Fridays ago one of my favorite bloggers, Elise of A Beautiful Mess released her newest dress collection, which happens to be in collaboration with possibly my favorite online retailer, Modcloth. Elsie’s collection consists of 10 pieces all so beautiful and stylish. Elsie’s collection is available through Modcloth and have I mentioned that everything is super cute.

I love how Katie wears these two dresses. These two dresses are my absolute favorite pieces of Elsie’s collection; I especially love the quirky pocket designs. (Note: The houses aren't actually pockets but they’re placed where pockets would be.)
[All pictures except the first are from Elsie Larson's blog, A Beautiful Mess. The first one was found on the Modcloth blog.
[Buy the Stylish Ever Crafter Dress and the Punctuation Rock Top.]

The top Emma is wearing is a must just because it adorns some dots. Yep, I’m officially a polka-dot freak (not that I wasn't before...). Everything I see with polka-dots on it automatically gets a double take from me.  Also I’m really into gingham print this fall (see me wearing it here), so this dress that Kinsey is wearing is so going on my never ending wishlist of clothing. What's your favorite piece from Elise's collection for Modcloth???

xoxo Jess.

A lovely wishlist

Lately I've been obsessed with pinning outfits that have bold colors in them, glittery shoes, spunky/quirky accessories and Dear Creatures dresses. I think that explains where this wishlist comes from!
What's on your wishlist right now? xoxo Jess.

Tights.

Can I tell you a bit of what it’s like to be a dancer? The one thing I’ve noticed over the years is I only own Capezio tights. Capezio is a brand that almost all dancers wear, myself included. So when I went shopping for these tights that I’m wearing it felt so foreign to have a different brand of tights in my hand.
[I'm Wearing: Dress: Gift from my aunt, Tights: Target and Shoes: Famous Footwear]
This dress was a gift from my aunt during last August. I liked it because it was a sweater dress and as soon as I put it on it felt perfect. Last year I wore this with my tan dance tights so it looked like I wasn't wearing any making this dress look really short on my super long legs.  I bought these mustard yellow tights with two outfits in mind, this being one of them.  In the next few weeks I’m betting that you’re going to see a lot more of these tights!!

It is certainly fall here.

Fall is certainly here in my neck of the woods. It’s been super dreary this week, it rained almost every day and the sun was rarely out. It put a damper on taking outfit pictures that’s for sure. Today though it’s been super glorious outside, I love it.
[I'm Wearing: Tank Top: Aeropostale, Top: Aerie, Cardigan: Forever 21 Jeans: Kohls and Boots: Gift (from my Aunt last year.)]
This outfit screamed fall when I put it on. It’s got some of the best fall elements featured boots, a mustard cardigan and some pretty lace. I think this is my favorite fall outfit I’ve put together, yet. My favorite thing about this out has to be the mustard yellow cardigan. Can I praise this cardigan? I can, OK! It’s super warm and has the softest feel in the world. If it were up to me I’d find a way to wear this everyday it’s just so dang warm.
Next week I start some pretty exciting things for dance. I’ll be going in for two extra hours at the studio to start learning the routines for our Christmas performance. (If you think October is early, the Radio City Rockettes start learning their routines in August.) I’m really excited to be a part of this performance because it’s a charity performance for a school. I love being a part of a dance studio that does things like this, because we want to not because we feel the need to. What’s happening in your life right now? xoxo  Jess.

[Book] Wishlist

[Above Photo From Elsie Larson's Blog A Beautiful Mess]

My favorite thing about chilly weather is staying inside and reading a good page turning book. Nothing beats sitting on my bed wrapped up in a cozy blanket with fuzzy socks and a hot cup of tea with a heaping amount of honey.  It’s the best way to spend a chilly day, don’t ya think?
I love looking for new reads and that is why I’m sharing my reading wishlist and opening it up for you to give suggestions.

My Book Wishlist.
My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick
Change Of Heart by Jodi Picoult *
The Story of Us by Deb Calet
The Causal Vacancy by J.K. Rowling
Fifty Shades of Grey (Trilogy) by E.L. James
*(This one is a bit older than the rest)
Is there anything you suggest I add? (I will most likely post about all of these once I (buy and) read them. xoxo Jess.

    Beautiful color, lousy name.

Oxblood. It sounds like something that belongs in the wild not on a piece of clothing. What’s wrong with burgundy or wine? Why oxblood? I feel like they had to kill an animal (probably an ox) to get the color. I just find it oh-so wrong. There are a few things in fashion that unattractive and this is one of them.

But enough with me bashing the name of this color and onto praising how it looks in fall. Fall is time for deep colors and for a girl who describes her style as very girly it’s hard to find the perfect balance in fall. Take a look at some of my favorite ways to find that balance while still using oxblood below.

Oh and Happy Thanksgiving to all you Canadians out there. Eat some turkey for me will ya?

Faster than the wind, passionate as sin...

I felt extremely overwhelmed this morning when I went to pick out my outfit. I mean I had only been utilizing about a third of it so to be able to use all of it felt strangely weird. This outfit was actually picked out ahead of time but I had to do some editing to get it just the way I needed it to be. I changed my shirt and shoes. I love the end result of this outfit, something about just makes me happy.
[I'm Wearing: Shirt: Aerie, Skirt: Forever 21 and Shoes: Canadian Walmart (old)]
I love the pattern on this skirt! It's great for fall, it makes me want to go apple picking. (Weird fact: I've never been.) What does this skirt remind you of/make you want to do?!? xoxo Jess.

    Missing Month

October is my missing month. Confused? All right I’ll explain. You know when you’re thinking about the months of the year for some odd reason and fall just happens to come up? Well whenever I say the months I say them in this order, September, November and December. See what I’m getting at now. I never included October; usually someone has to point out to me that I’ve missed it. (Talk about embarrassing.) So from now on I’m just going to call it the missing month because I keep missing no matter how hard I try.
[I'm Wearing: Top: Forever 21, Pants: Walmart and Shoes: Target.]
This outfit was my way of welcoming my missing month. I really wanted something that said fall is really here. And what says it better than mustard? Maybe a pumpkin but I can’t really wear that now can I? Although this shade of mustard is a bit brighter it still fits perfectly with the fall color story. Lately I’ve really been into the fall color story and the way it transfers beautifully onto clothing.

Right now I have a few outfits planned that I’m supper excited for because, guess what ends very soon (November 3rd! Update: See what I mean uh I totally really meant October 3rd.) my 30 for 30 challenge! I really found it beneficial even if I did get so mad I threw a mountain of clothing around my room.  I think that now I know that I can take almost all the pieces in my closet and mix them up I’m going to have such a fun time with my wardrobe now.  I’m planning on posting the last outfit Thursday and that will be the close of the 30 for 30 outfits!! Eee! Super excited to utilize my whole closet again. Have a great Tuesday, xoxo Jess.
