To the Edgier Side

Scallop On Over| Modcloth Cobalt blue dress styling

What I'd be Wearing: Dress: Modcloth, Moto Jacket: Ruche, Shoes: Modcloth, Purse: Forever 21, Lipstick: Mac in Vegas Volt (Amplified), Nail Polish: Nars in Tommorrow's Red

You guys, this outfit is one I'm dying to have! I wanted to try something out of my comfort zone for this week"s What I'd Wear post and I have to say I love it. I'm going to be buying the three main (dress, jacket and shoes) pieces for spring, I can feel it. Like I said though I think this is not something I'd normally wear but I still love it. The dress is perfect for what I consider a "I'm flirty and fun but not that flirty and fun" type of dress and the moto jacket is just the perfect way to seal the deal!! What do you think of this outfit?

Jeweled Sweater

Happy Tuesday, guys! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! It's snowy here in Buffalo again so I decided to rid the snowy blues by wearing an outfit I forgot about. A friend of mine suggested that I wear this because it would go could with my hair. I'm glad I did because I love it to pieces!!
I'm lusting after spring right now. I've bought countless spring things (a sleeveless top, multiple dresses, two skirts...) and my mind is just screaming at the snow to be gone. I want spring. I want the new season, the season of rebirth. I want to be able to wear skirts without multiple pairs of tights. I want to go jacket-less. I want to take pictures outside. I just want spring. And fast.
I'm Wearing:
Top: Aerie
Pants: H&M
Shoes: DV Dolce Vita
Necklace: Peggy Li Creations

Breaking Rules

I have a few rules when it comes to fashion for whatever reason. These rules normally don't go with trends but they seem to keep me sane and out of the "what the *bleep* was that" category. Sometimes though those rules become a pain, like the guy on Sunday who asks me to swap his meat and bun on a double breakfast sandwich every Sunday*.  So today I decided to break a few of those rules. Starting with denim on denim and then pairing black and blue. And I have to say that I really like the way it worked out!
I'm a student so my life is filled with papers, Shakespeare, dead people who are important (I'm talking about you Thaddeus Stevens) math problems that only an insane person subjects themselves to and test upon test. Sometimes those tests involve multiple items off that list. One in particular was an in class essay that I was required to write on 3 short stories (The Painted Door, Hills Like White Elephants and The One's Who Walk Away From Omelas) for English. This was basically the essay from Hell, it took almost 6 full 45 minute periods to write the essay not counting the two and a half days I had for planning. When it was all said and done I was missing the conclusion because I had "used all the allotted time" and I was prepared to take whatever grade I got.
We got the essay back on Friday. I was expecting to see a failing grade on the "content" portion of the grade sheet. But, instead when I turned it to my friend (we set it up so we'd tell each other the grades because we were so afraid of failing) and she told me that I got a 90% I almost fell out of my chair. I couldn't believe it. I mean, the essay was missing a whole paragraph. Albeit a tiny one that is just a rewording of all the other paragraphs but its still important nonetheless. I know that this seems to have nothing to do with breaking rules and at first I didn't think it did but I technically broke a rule with that essay too. Essays can be A-worthy without a conclusion if the rest is like "reading somebody's own pure, unaltered thoughts".
I'm Wearing:
Top: Liz Claiborne (Thrifted)
Jeans: Garage (old)
Scarf: Modcloth
Shoes: UrbanOG (I'm in love with these bad boys)

*Dear Richard, YES YOU ARE THE MAN I'M TALKING ABOUT! HOW HARD IS IT TO BE SIMPLE?!?!

Mixed Textures and Spring Whishes

I hope all of my northern friends survived the Polar Vortex without too much trouble. It was very cold here in Buffalo but today everything seems to be turning back to normal. The sun is shining, the wind is normal and the temperature is in the double digits with the windchill. For Buffalo in January this is pretty normal and I can deal with it the, Polar Vortex on the other hand was something I hope to never deal with again. Yikes! For reference it was at it's coldest, -30ish I believe, that's with the windchill factored in!
But enough about the Polar Vortex and crazy cold weather we've been having. I want to talk about spring colors. I want them. Pastels are calling my name again and I couldn't help but say yes. So I paired this printed chiffon top with one of my favorite pastel cardigans and had spring fever. But can you blame me?
This outfit also features a bunch of different textures that I'm truly in love with. The chiffon top has a totally different texture than your average chiffon top so when paired with the cardigan that has a crazy fun texture and my faux suede booties* you get an outfit full of texture and spring colors.  Can spring come any quicker?

I'm Wearing:
Top: Ardene (gift from my Aunt)
Sweater: Charlotte Russe (Old)
Pants: So by Kohl's (Old)
Booties: UrbanOG

*Today I was telling Mark about my booties because they make me around the same height as him and his response was, "what are booties"? So I went into a story about booties and he told me about booties worn in crew to prevent slipping on the docks. That's our relationship, we teach each other things that we'll never have to know. And I can't say that I mind. (:

Inspired By...

About mid last month I started dreaming up a space to share my outfits that are inspired by TV shows, movies and magazine spreads because I've realized that I do in fact have a lot of these and sometimes I feel silly posting them here for whatever reason. So then came the spark to do just that and one cold winter day I sat down and created that space. Inspired By... is going to be a place where I share outfits (and dreamed up outfits) that are inspired by TV shows, movies and magazines only. Already on the blog are a few from this blog's archive and today there is the first new outfit post (and on Monday I posted an Inspired By Belle polyvore set)! So go on over to Inspired By... and take a peek!
P.S. This blog will be still here, highlighting my personal style that isn't inspired by those things mentioned above.

Frigid

It's negative a billion outside but I'm warming up with some hot tea, a snuggle from my kitties and some DVR'd TV. This week has been mostly like that. Nobody is going outside unless they have to and school has been canceled twice in the last week due to -20 or worse temperatures and blizzard warnings. I like the free days off but seriously Mother Nature, who pissed you off?

I'm Wearing
Sweater: Target
Pants: Levi's via J.C. Penny's
Shoes: DV Dolce Vita
Scarf: Charlotte Russe [old]

A Few Of My Favorite Things

Now that it's the start of the new year I thought it'd be a great time to share a few of my favorite things from 2013. While I loved a whole lot of things in 2013 (i.e. meeting certain people, performing in three cities, visiting places I've never been) these are the tangible things that I loved, adored really, in 2013!
It's so FLUFFY!
This blanket was bought on Black Friday because it was on sale and I knew that I was getting a new comforter set soon. But right after I opened it on Christmas day I fell in love with it's softness, it's size (it's a twin blanket not a throw) and it's warmth. I love it soooo much! And Missy approves.
Guys, this stuff is the holy grail of blush! I own two shades (Orgasm and Deep Throat) and they are by far my favorite blushes. I reach for one of them every morning because I love how natural they look. And as a plus, they seem to last pretty well (I wore Orgasm for any performance I had this year and it stayed even in 90 degree weather with humidity)!
Pucker Up, my deary!
This year was a year for lipstick. I decided to step out of my comfort zone and just go for it. I tried three lipstick this year and I really liked two of them, Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Yu and Candy Yum-Yum Matte Lipstick by MAC. These two are the perfect pop of color!!
Read and Weep!
This year I read some books but my favorites were these three John Green books. John Green writes books that make you cry (TFiOS), laugh (An Abundance of Katherines) and just love (Paper Towns).

These were a few of my favorite things in 2013. I can't wait to see my favorite things of 2014 in 364 days!
